Frequently Asked Questions
How is my tax calculated with the elevated card price factored in?
Tax is calculated based on the total amount charged for the transaction. The transaction price, regardless of whether paid by card or cash, will be considered the pre-taxed amount, and tax will be charged based on that amount.
I.e. If the total amount is paid with $10 for cash and $10.35 for credit, then it will calculate tax on top of each price.
What if a guest pays with a split tender for a Group event?
Cash pricing will remain in effect for an event until a credit card payment is made. A cash discount will be applied to a booking only if the entire event is paid in cash. If at any point a card is presented for payment, the entire booking total reverts to the standard price. Please note, as with events moving forward, the standard price will be applied based on the overall event total, regardless of what has already been paid.
What if a guest pays a split tender for a POS transaction?
Ideally, keeping cash and credit card transactions separate makes for the easiest guest experience. If a split tender is necessary, it is best practice to encourage the guest to pay with the card first and then with cash. Split transactions are based on the standard price if part of the total tender is paid for with a credit or debit card.
Am I required to offer cash payment types within my facility with Dual Pricing?
Locations are required to clearly and simply offer and communicate both cash and card prices to guests so they can make an informed choice about their payment method.
When transitioning to Dual Pricing, what happens to my events that were booked previously but still have remaining balances owed?
Events booked prior to the date of the changeover to Dual Pricing will still remain at their original price. After the changeover, the first credit card payment made to the event will cause it to kick over to the standard price. The event will remain at the discounted cash price if cash is solely used to pay for the event in its entirety.
What reports in Advantage are best to reconcile my merchant processing?
The Credit Card Reconciliation and Deposit Summary reports will reflect the actual amount you should receive in your bank deposits. Therefore, these reports will show the amount charged to cards less the card price markup, which is passed on for your merchant processing.
The Credit Cards Processed report will display the actual charges made to your guests' credit cards and will, therefore, incorporate the standard (card) price paid.
The End of Day Balance report will now reflect a Merchant Fee Savings Adjustment (MFSA) to account for the fees paid for each transaction that used credit cards for payment.
How do I best handle returns in the POS?
Receipt Returns are the optimal method for performing refunds because they reference the original receipt. For a receipt return, the amount returned matches the amount paid on the original receipt, regardless of the pricing used (i.e. Cash or Card Price).
Open-ended returns, in other words, items added manually to the ticker in POS and marked for a return, will not update pricing based on the payment method, and are therefore always returned at the cash price.
Why is an event in Groups not showing the cash vs. card pricing totals in the event reservation or invoice report?
If this is an event that was booked prior to your transition to Dual Pricing and the event has not had a card payment made for it since that time of switchover, then you will need to click Edit on the event and click Save to switch it over to displaying the cash and card price options.
If an event has received a card payment since switching to Dual Pricing, then the reports will only reflect the card price total.
